Folding Electric Scooter
An electric scooter, also known as mobility scooter, is a battery-operated mobility aid equivalent to a wheelchair but is especially designed as temporary or full time assistant to those who have not enough strength to maneuver a manual wheelchair or elderly person whom need to move around, those who are suffering from systemic disabling ailment, or those who cannot bear to walk or stand for long periods. Users of an electric scooter still have certain amount of mobility but may need a little assistance from time to time especially when they get tired or when symptoms of their ailment flare-up.
Contrary to what some sectors perceive it to be, using an electric scooter is not a sign of defeat and futility. Rather, it makes the elderly person productive despite his predicament, and helps him make a difference in the quality of his life as it dispels the concept of helplessness by offering a sense of independence.
An electric scooter is user-friendly and easy to get on and off. It has a seat above the two rear wheels, a flat surface for the feet, handlebars in front to turn the steerable wheels, and an adjustable swiveling seat. It even conserves the energy of the elderly person because an electric scooter does not require him/her to exert more effort to walk and/or maneuver compared to what a traditional wheelchair usually compels him to do. Besides, this type of mobility eliminates the strains on shoulder muscles, wrists and elbow joints that usually occur in maneuvering a wheelchair. And although it may be an equivalent to a wheelchair, an electric scooter does not look like it, which is quite advantageous especially because the former usually connotes old age, a thing that may elicit derision on the younger users.
For the convenience of the elderly, manufacturers have come up with different kinds of mobility scooters according to varied conditions.
Getting on Folding Scooter
The small and compact mobility scooter, which is also called boot or trunk scooter and also folding scooter, is the ideal one to be used in the home or other confined areas. But it can also be used on an even surface outdoor. A folding scooter is portable, light weight, and specifically designed for short trips on a daily basis and easily fold-able. Since it is portable, it can easily be dismantled and loaded into a car easily.
The mid-size mobility scooter, meanwhile, is a slightly bigger model than the compact type. It is suitable for outdoor use as it has the capability of traveling longer distances on rougher terrain with a higher load compared to what its compact counterpart offers.
On the other hand, there is another type called heavy-duty scooter, which is specifically designed to carry heavier weights over longer distances that can even exceed 20 miles and on increased speed. It has larger tires, improved suspension, and higher ground clearance. Its chair is bigger, padded and allows recline.
Once again, in choosing the appropriate scooter, it is important to take into consideration the level of safety and comfort of the user as well as where it is going to be used often. For those who are budget-constrained, it is advisable to compare prices against the model’s usability before buying one.
